Introduction

Shell scripting allows Linux users and DevOps engineers to automate repetitive tasks by combining Linux commands into executable scripts.

Instead of manually typing commands every time a task needs to be performed, a Bash script executes them automatically in the correct order.

In modern DevOps environments, shell scripts are frequently used for:

Although many modern automation tools exist, Bash scripting remains one of the most important foundational skills because many of those tools ultimately execute shell commands behind the scenes.

What is Shell Scripting?

A shell script is a plain text file containing a sequence of shell commands that the operating system executes one after another.

Most Linux systems use Bash (Bourne Again Shell) as the default shell.

Example:

#!/bin/bash

echo"Hello World"

When executed, Bash interprets every line and performs the requested actions.
